Background Info:

Rylan's father was rather abusive, often beating both his son and his wife black and blue for small mistakes. As such, he was raised mainly by his mother, who always put on a smile for her son in the tough times. He's carried this trait of hers on in himself through the years.

One night, it seemed Rylan's father was horribly irritated at something that had happened in the tavern he frequented and he came home in a blind rage. He killed Rylan's mother right before his eyes, then went after Rylan himself. After taking quite a beating, he passed out and his father assumed him to be dead, kicking him aside. The next day, Rylan woke, hardly able to move, but saw that his father was now laying dead nearby. It seemed sometime in the night, he realized what he had done and decided to take his own life.

Rylan managed to nearly-drag himself out of the house, but collapsed not far down the dirt road, where he was found by an elderly mage. This mage took Rylan back to his home and nursed him back to health. As he healed, Rylan was taught what the elderly mage knew of time manipulation and magic and was told to go study it further under the guidance of the mage guild.

It wasn't long after Rylan had fully healed and had went off to study that he learned the elderly mage who had helped him was now dead as well. However, Rylan put on a smile, content in the knowledge that the mage had passed down his wisdom to him, so he could carry on the little-known magic. At the same time, however, Rylan promised himself he wouldn't get too close to any more people, as it seemed the only people he really came to cherish were now all dead, and he wouldn't want it to happen once again.

There are times he wishes he could break this promise to himself, as he longs for a form of friendship beyond mere acquaintance, but it seems that even though he's quite friendly, he may have become shy, having only relied on himself for so long.

Personality:

A cheerful youth, Rylan enjoys socializing with all types of people, no matter what their race, age, or social standing. He's emotional, but no one would ever know since he's always putting on a cheerful expression. This helps him to be quite level headed, as well, and he's a great asset in a battle. He's mature for his age, which probably comes from his manipulation of time.

I wanted a mage from the start. Originally he was going to be a wind mage, but, I dunno, I liked the thought of him controlling time. :3
